Construction & Design
The construction of High Roller began in late 2011, and the people behind it needed almost two years to complete it. After adding all of the cabins (the last one was added in November of 2013), the Ferris wheel had to go through rigorous tests. This took a couple of months, and in the end, High Roller became available to visitors in March 2014.
The idea behind the project’s design came from Caesars Entertainment in 2011. What’s interesting is that the company decided to contact the engineers of the Singapore Flyer, the highest wheel in the world at that time.
Needless to say, Vegas’s High Roller has a very complex design. The stricture uses special spherical roller bearings that weigh 8800 kg each. Interestingly, all of the cabins are placed on the wheel’s outbound rim. Furthermore, each one is operated by special motors so that it can stay horizontal when rotating.
In total, the High Roller Las Vegas can accommodate up to 1120 people, and it uses as many as 2000 different LED systems. Thanks to them, this Ferris wheel can display tons of different colors and custom options when there are certain events.
How to get on High Roller?
Besides the fact that casino cheetahs have to travel to Vegas, they also need to purchase tickets. Originally, the High Roller Las Vegas tickets prize had to be around $20 per person, but after High Roller became available, the ticket was $29 during the day and $39 at night for adults. Kids between 4-12 can enter for $10 during the day and $19 at night, whereas children under 3 are free of charge.
High Roller also has Happy Half Hour. These are special cabins that contain a bar and a bartender, allowing you to get drinks while enjoying the amazing views. These cabins can hold up to 25 people, and everyone must be at least 21 years old.
The entire High Roller at the Linq ride takes around 30 minutes, and all cabins have AC.
High Roller’s Successor
After High Roller started operating in Vegas, it became the world’s tallest Ferris wheel. Sadly, this did not last long because the authorities in the United Arab Emirates decided to create an even taller one.
There are many rumors about Ain Dubai and what happened, but you should know that it is no longer operating. In fact, it is closed to the public as of early 2022, and no one knows whether it will be available in the future. This means that High Roller continues to be the tallest operational Ferris wheel in the world right now.
